ABSTRACT
Background: Preconception reproductive risk is the likelihood for a pregnant woman or her product to suffer harm, if she engages in a reproductive process. Objective: To characterize the reproductive preconceptional risk in clinics 23 and 24 of the "Miguel Montesino Rodríguez" Teaching Polyclinic in the municipality of Fomento. Methodology: Descriptive, retrospective and cross-sectional study in the period from January to December 2008. The population consisted of 217 patients of childbearing age and the sample was made up of 47 patients with pre-conception reproductive risk. The variables studied were: age, parity, causes of risk, contraceptive methods and control of preconception reproductive risk. Results: The greatest number of patients was between 31 and 40 years old, with an average parity of two births. These were classified as older than- average-age patients as to the main cause of risk, used intrauterine devices for contraception and were not controlled as preconception reproductive risk patients. Conclusions: The characterization of preconception reproductive risks in this research revealed mainly the negative influence of poor control in maternal perinatal health, so it is necessary to improve in this respect through proper grouping, registering and monitoring to ensure optimal conditions in reproduction.REFERENCES
