ABSTRACT

Infectious mononucleosis (IM) is a clinical syndrome caused by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Whereas most EBV infections of infants and children are asymptomatic or have nonspecific symptoms, infections of adolescents and adults frequently result in IM, with classic symptoms like: sore throat, lymph node enlargement, fever, and tonsillar enlargement. The mainstay of treatment for IM is supportive care.
