ABSTRACT
Human ehrlichiosis is an acute febrile disease transmitted by ticks. Ehrlichia is a pleomorphic Gram-negative obligatory intracellular bacteria, reside vacuoles within the cytoplasm of blood cells of animals and humans. Multiply by binary fission, forming an aggregate or microcolony (“morula”), visible in blood smears by light microscopy. Its present as a flu-like illness with fever, malaise, myalgia and headache or to a septic shock with multiple organ failure and death. The diagnosis can be suspected visualizing intracytoplasmic morulae in the affected cells in peripheral blood smears, and confirmed by serology, culture or molecular detection. The treatment of choice is doxycycline a good clinical response. Here is the report of 2 cases diagnosed by blood smear.
