ABSTRACT
We communicate the case of a female newborn with thyroid dysgenesis secondary to total thyroidectomy and I-131 treatment in the 4
th gestational month because of thyroid cancer in the mother. At birth, the newborn showed hypoactivity, weak suction, hoarse cry, large posterior fontanelle, and a communicant sagittal suture. A thyroid dysgenesis diagnosis was done based on perinatal history, thyroid laboratory tests, ultrasound and x-rays. At the moment of diagnosis, levothyroxine treatment was prescribed; that produced a notorious clinical improvement.
