ABSTRACT
Epidermoid cysts are rare benign lesions in the oral cavity. They are caused by entrapment of the germinal epithelium during the closing of the gill arches. These lesions are of slow growing, painless and appear at any age. From a histopathological point of view, they are made up of epithelial lining, with keratin in it. About 7% of cases occur in the head and neck and only in 0.1-1.6% affect the oral cavity. The most common location in the oral cavity is the floor of the mouth, but other locations are referred to as the uvula. We describe the case of an 18 year-old woman with a slowly growing mass in the uvula, 8 years of development, and her diagnosis and treatment. We present a review of the literature, since there are isolated reported cases of this disease.
