ABSTRACT
Obesity and asthma are prevalent diseases worldwide and the increased prevalence of both is a challenge in public health. Several studies suggest an association of obesity and asthma. The authors’ goal was to conduct a literature review of the evidence to describe the phenotypes of asthma in obesity. Studies suggest a phenotype of asthma associated with obesity, characterized by a history of low birth weight, physical inactivity in children and adults with increased BMI, with the consequent establishment of overweight and obesity, increasing the risk of incident asthma altering the prevailing clinical control of asthma, reducing steroid response and stable response to anti-leukotrienes.
