ABSTRACT
For its nutritional value, the milk is sufficient to provide the basic for the newborn. However, the milk should not only be considered as the main source of nutrition but also for immunity. Through breast milk immune lineage cells had been transferred to the newborn, the cell types present in milk are diverse and among them we have T, B and Natural Killer cells in different proportions. In colostrum a lot of immune lineage cells had been observed, after that the composition of the milk changes named “transitional” and then “mature”, both expressed lower number of cells than colostrum; however, until now its unknown if the functionality of the fewer cell in transitional or mature milk is greater or less than in colostrum. Humoral immunity is mediated by the production of immunoglobulins (Igs) in B-lymphocytes, principally by secretory immunoglobulin A (IgAs), B cells present in milk could colonize the gut of infants.
