ABSTRACT
Necrotizing infections of soft tissues vary in their clinical presentation, but they are grave entities associated with high mortality rates. Clinical presentation involves fever, cellulitis, edema, crepitus, bullae, necrosis and sepsis; although in most cases a history of trauma or surgery is present. Surgical findings include skin and subcutaneous tissue necrosis with or without myonecrosis. The treatment is prompt surgical debridement combined with wide-spectrum antibiotic and intensive hyperbaric oxygen therapy. A case in a woman with necrotizing infection following a histerectomy and abdominoplasty with critical progression with satisfactory resolution with wide debridement, antibiotics, parenteral nutrition, hyperbaric oxygen and skin grafts in wound bed is presented.
