ABSTRACT
Neurilemoma or schwannoma is a frequent nervous origin tumor, that in the case of the hand is 1%, and it must be differentiated from neurofibroma. Diagnosis is not easy and frequently it can be done during transoperatory or with resected tumor histopathological study. In the Orthopaedic Hospital “Dr. Victorio de la Fuente Narváez”, of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, from 1993 to 1997, 38 nervous origin tumors were registered, 31 were reported as neurofibroma, six neurilemoma and a single case of malignant schwannoma. A clinical case of a 25 year-old man with a two year left ulnar nerve tumor operated under magnification is presented, finding an encapsulated tumor and wholeness of the affected nerve fascicles. Tumor resection was carried out, sent to pathology, and diagnosed neurilemoma. The result was satisfactory, with affected nerve function preserved. We concluded that this tumor diagnosis is not easy; not-withstanding in any injury of nervous origin it must be considered and diagnosed in the transoperatory to keep the nerve and only resect the tumor.REFERENCES
