Percutaneous treatment of osteoid osteoma with radiofrequency ablation. Case report

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Osteoid osteoma represents 10 to 20% of benign tumors of bone. Usually small, often painful and NSAIDs are able to decrease symptoms. Eventually required surgery likes in block resection and curettage, but there are techniques that eradicate the lesion percutaneously, such as radiofrequency ablation.
Case report: We report the case of a patient of 19 years with chronic pain of the right leg was diagnosed osteoid osteoma. Was managed with salicylates but because of intolerance underwent radiofrequency ablation successfully, and a free evolution of symptoms. The radio is a widely described and accepted in the world literature for the treatment of osteoid osteoma.
Discussion: Radiofrequency ablation is an established method of treatment for osteoid osteoma with advantages such as less exposure, more rapid rehabilitation and few complications with actually few contraindications.
