What is Zuska’s Disease?

ABSTRACT

Squamous metaplasia of the deep ducts of the nipple with keratin accumulation, obstruction, chronic inflammation, rupture, secondary infection, and formation of abscess or fistulae is an alteration that is found more frequently than it is reported. This is due to terminological confusion that describes it accurately. Our experience with this entity is presented and we propose it is named Zuskas’s disease, that is illustrated with a clinical case in a fusiform incision in distal end to the nipple has performed, including involved canailles that were deeply dissected to resect the more superficial portion of the mammary gland; the postoperative evolution was satisfactory. With this criteria the frequent recidives reported are avoided providing better treatment options.
