ABSTRACT
Objective: Demonstrating the efficacy that trans-rectal echo-directed prostatic biopsy sample with extensive technique has, obtaining from seven to ten samples through lobe by mapping and directed to nodular lesions.
Material and methods: A 114 patients-retrospective study were submitted to prostatic trans-rectal biopsy echo-directed with said technique, referred to Urology Service by presence, of specific prostatic antigen higher than 4 ng/dL with or without rectal suspicious tact.
Results: Prostate cancer in 35.08% of patients, from which, the group of bigger incidence is included between the 61 and 70 years old (47.2%) and with a prostatic specific antigen between 10 and 33 ng/dL (45.1%).
Conclusion: Diagnostic classical sextant biopsy performance has been overcome by extended biopsy techniques and the used in our series shows itself to be an acceptable procedure to increase prostate cancer detection.
