ABSTRACT
Therapeutic apheresis is based on reducing the burden of circulating elements and toxic substances to levels that will improve the health of the patient and prevent complications; is also used to alter the proportion or delete antigen-antibody complexes and inflammatory mediators. It represents an alternative where conventional treatment has not been successful or has failed. While the basics of apheresis procedures do not vary between adult and pediatric patients in the latter are factors that are characteristic of each stage of child development, with different physiological responses than adults. For these and other reasons, therapeutic apheresis in pediatrics has faced limitations. This article presents the experience gained in the Hospital Infantil de Mexico in recent years.
