ABSTRACT
Introduction: Due to the growing importance of the radiologist in the diagnosis, the communication by the test report with different services, demands not only to be precise, but also expedite. The technological advances in telecommunications may contribute to accelerate and improve the medical interdisciplinary dialogue; such is the case of the RIS and PACS systems, whose implementation in the medical field has an impact in a high quality care.
Objective: To know, evaluate and improve the communication of the Department of Radiology and Imaging with the different services of Angeles del Pedregal Hospital.
Material and methods: After Communication Improvement and Establishment Policy was started, on June 4, 2007, an evaluation of the clinical files and radiological studies and imaging methods used in the Department of Radiology of Angeles del Pedregal Hospital, was carried out. Demographic data and features of the clinics communication and the imaging findings were analyzed.
Results: Starting from the practice of the Communication Improvement and Establishment Policy in the Department of Radiology and Imaging of the Angeles del Pedregal Hospital, which began on June 4, 2007 and at 22 days of its application to the date 4 VI-4 VII, 2007 the following results were obtained: Communication in 83 casepatients was established, representing 3.7 cases per day, with 16% in cases of urgencies, 55% of hospitalized patients and 30% of outpatients. The established communication mean was 22% by phone and with the direct Interpretation under physician-physician interviews using the PACS system in 56%.
Conclusion: The Department of Radiology and Imaging substantially contributes in the diagnostic and therapeutic process (40-60%), resulting essential therefore, not only at imaging interpretation, but also to guarantee the interdisciplinary relationship in the patient’s benefit.
