ABSTRACT
Objective: Knowing the frequency of the prostate cancer diagnosis in the Hospital Regional «Gral. I. Zaragoza», ISSSTE using as method the ultrasoundguided transrectal biopsy, in contrast to world literature.Materials and methods: Transrectal prostatic biopsy was taken to all social security beneficiaries present, who fulfilled the inclusion criteria like specific prostatic antigen › 12 ng/dL, abnormal rectal tact and prostatic nodules. This procedure was carried out with high resolution ultrasound, and checked by the Service of Pathological Anatomy within a period between January 1° 2006 to April 30, 2007.
Results: 174 patients examined through transrectal biopsy. 111 were positive (63.7%) being the hypoecogenic nodules the most frequent (58.5%), the hyperecogenic nodules (20.8%), isoecogenic (18.9%) and mixed (1.8%); the area of more localization corresponded to the outlying area (70.2%), the central area (23.5%), transition area (6.3%). The range of 40-50 year-old age, (0%) from 51-60 years (30.6%), from 61-70 (46.9%), from 71-80 years old and (15.3%) from 81-90 years (7.2%). Within complications we found: hematuria (92%), rectus hemorraghe (85%), fever (3%) and only one presented sepsis (1.7%). The number of cuts carried out ranged between 8-10, taken in the outlying, central area and apex.
Conclusions: It was demonstrated that the combination of suspect tact rectal, antigen prostatic › 12 ngr/dL and the presence of prostatic vascular nodules have a high probability of positive results.
