ABSTRACT
Introduction: The degenerative processes of the lumbar column are frequent and their etiology is multiple. One of the evolutionary stages of the intervertebral osteochondrosis includes disks hernia, traditionally considered as one of the main causes of the painful lower lumbar problems and of ciatalgies. The degenerative staging articulate illness is included among the main pathological complex of the lumbar degenerative illness, responsible for the so-called lower lumbar pain or low back pain, with more participation relevance that the disk hernia in the production of this symptom.
Conclusion: The participation of the current diagnostic neuroimaging, mainly the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), in the study of the lumbar degenerative illness, offers the diagnostic definition required to support the indication of a surgical procedure. In certain cases, the IRM establishes another diagnosis, not clinically contemplated that justifies the clinical scope and doesn’t require surgery.
