ABSTRACT
Introduction: Gallstone ileus is the term given to the intestinal mechanical obstruction secondary to the intraluminal impact of litho or lithos, vesicular origin and/or bile duct that can occur at any level of gastrointestinal tract, from stomach to rectum. GI represents 1-4% of all the processes causing of intestinal obstruction.
Material and methods: In a revision of 1,800 thoracicabdominopelvic studies (June 2006-July 2007) three cases of GI were found.
Results: Three cases with clinical-radio-pathological correlation appeared that allowed to identify the CT Image findings of the GI, as well as describing the frequency, distribution and Image findings of whatever is the method to identify and recognize the GI.
Conclusion: The GI is a rare condition and consequently of unnoticed diagnosis, frequently done late and that happens mainly in aged patients, whom habitually have concomitant sufferings that increase the morbid process.
