ABSTRACT
Objective: To report the degree of shaft and femur fractures resolution without using direct fluoroscopy or images intensifier.
Patients and methods: This is a prospective longitudinal and descriptive study in patients with tibia and femur fractures. It was done from September 1997 to October 1998 at Hospital 1° de Octubre. We selected 42 patients with centromedullary nail surgery without fluoroscopy; all of them were followed until bone consolidation.
Results: We studied 42 cases in 39 patients, and found 23 tibia fractures and 19 femur fractures, six exposed tibia fractures and three exposed femur fractures. Of them, 23 were female and 15 male, with an age range of 14-85. The most affected extremity was left; only two patients suffered retard in consolidation. There was not pseudoarthrosis or infection.
Conclusions: Blockade distal can be carried out without fluoroscopy with good outcome and surgical time.
