ABSTRACT
Background: In the past 20 years, allergic diseases have increased and Mexico is no exception. Objective: To determine the level of knowledge about the disease of relatives of patients with allergies (parents, tutors and companions), health personnel and dependents in general, as the Institute has not documented this information.
Participants and method: Observational, descriptive and transversal study. The sample was 130 individuals, divided into three groups: relatives of patients with allergies, health staff (general practitioners, interns, nurses) and general insured population. We used a questionnaire that explored the knowledge of signs, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and complications of the disease. The scores obtained were classified of ≥ 8 (adequate knowledge) and ≤ 7 (inadequate knowledge). Information was analyzed using descriptive statistics and ANOVA statistical test.
Results: 90% of insured population had inadequate knowledge, while in the group of relatives of allergic patients, 90% had an adequate knowledge. More than 90% of personnel group had adequate knowledge.
Conclusions: The scores of the group of relatives of allergic patients show that the information received about the condition is good, like health personnel. However, despite results showing percentage differences by group, there were no statistical differences between them.
