ABSTRACT
Since the introduction of laparoscopical cholecystectomy and new video-endoscopy devices, laparoscopical surgery has been employed in several surgery fields and trauma has not been the exception. As it is well-known, traumatic lesions are placed in a very important place as a cause of people pathology, and specially among young people.
Cause of this, laparoscopical surgery has been introduced into this field.
From May 1999 to January 2000, a prospective study was carried out with patients entering La Villa General Hospital belonging to the Welfare Department of the Federal District aiming to know the usefulness of laparotomy applied to trauma. Ten stable patients, with diagnosis doubt, 6 (60%) of them presenting contused trauma and 4 (40%) with pricking and cutting injures. Findings were negative in 70% and 30% presented lesion, so they were treated by open surgery. With a sensibility of 66.6% and a specificity of 100%, we conclude that laparotomy may avoid unnecessary surgery in stable and presenting diagnosis doubt patients.
