ABSTRACT
Objective: To present an initial experience with 64-slice uro-tomography (64-slice Uro-CT) in the study of urological pathology.
Materials and methods: Sixty randomly selected 64-slice Uro-CT studies carried out from June 2006 to September 2007 were analyzed retrospectively. The studies were grouped according to urological diagnosis and the clinical/surgical vs. imaging correlation was evaluated in each one, as well as the usefulness and benefit of 64-slice Uro-CT application.
Results: There were 24 cases of obstructive uropathy and lithiasis and 16 cases of congenital malformations. There were 10 studies of kidney in living transplant donors, 8 cases of renal tumors and 2 cases of closed renal traumatism.
Conclusions: A very complete study of the urinary system can be carried out using 64-slice uro-tomography, correctly showing the urinary tract and kidney morphology and vascularity. This study can provide more precise diagnoses for different pathologies and an improvement in treatment planning. The speed with which 64-slice Uro-CT is carried out makes it a study of choice for unstable patients, emergency surgery patients and pediatric patients.
