ABSTRACT
Injury to the axillary artery and brachial plexus are relatively uncommon complications in closed trauma.
We present a case in which a 33-year old patient suffered from a partial axillary artery rupture and brachial plexus injury after an anterior traumatic right shoulder dislocation. The alteration was diagnosed and the patient underwent surgery, where an end to end anastomotic repair of the axillary artery was performed, as well as a macroscopic exploration of the brachial plexus, where no injury was found macroscopically.
Recovery results of the vascular injury were successful; on the other hand, the brachial plexus injury led to disability.
This kind of injuries must be suspected whenever dislocation results and clinical improvement are poor. Arteriography might be a study to bear in mind early; dislocation reduction maneuvers must always be gentile, under adequate conditions.
