ABSTRACT
We communicate and describe the histopathological features of primary melanoma of the corneal surface and the treatment of choice in a 52-year-old male patient with a diagnosis of ocular tumor in the cornea. It was performed scleral-conjunctival lamellar keratectomy, with subsequent histopathological examination of surgical specimens. The histopathologic study revealed a malignant melanoma tumor-to extend beyond the basement membrane of irregular pigmentation, and located in the corneal tissue. The tumor cells did not exceed the sheet of Bowman, both its structure and edges, and did not damage any sector of the limbal conjunctiva. Immunostaining was positive for S-100 protein, Melan-A, HMB-45 and vimentin. This paper exposes what we believe is the first report of diagnosis and treatment of primary melanoma of the cornea surface, and stresses the importance of considering one of the possible diagnoses among corneal pigmented lesions.REFERENCES
