ABSTRACT
The obsolete curricula of the Medicine College of the UACh (Autonomous University of Chihuahua), since its foundation in 1954 –when the professional training of doctors was focused on the behavioral paradigm and teaching was oriented to contents–, was the reason for becoming pediatrics teaching and learning focused on skill development. This article presents the objective of divulging the way in how theskill development is promoted in the Course of Pediatrics. The mentioned course is given in the 80% of it in the clinical fields. This fact takes the students to be exposed to patients and their health problems since they are coursing the fifth semester. The aforementioned situation fosters students to learn and learn while doing; i.e., taking part in the analysis and management of clinical cases. The proposed learning method lies on the educational method that involves teaching centered on skills. This means that the student is the manager of his/her own learning process. This sort of teaching and lear ming in pediatrics contributes to the development of basic, professional, and specific skills proposed for college graduation. Among the desired skills, it can be quoted the following ones: problem solution, teamwork, language and communication, culture in health, diagnosis and pathology management, and health prevention and promotion.REFERENCES
