ABSTRACT
Patients with autoimmune connective diseases are at a greater risk of developing lower limb ulcers. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the evolution of lower limb ulcers among patients with autoimmune connective diseases, particularly after skin autografting. Between 2001 and 2009, 15 lower limb ulcers were identified in 8 patients with autoimmune connective diseases and without concomitant vascular disease. Patients without pharmacologic control of the autoimmune disease showed therapeutic failure after skin grafting. Adequate pharmacologic control of the autoimmune disease promoted stable healing by either skin grafting or local wound care. Activity relapse of the autoimmune disease caused recurrence in healed areas in all cases. The development of local features related to the autoimmune disease is associated with therapeutic failure.
