ABSTRACT

Skin and soft tissues necrotizing infections are processes that vary in their presentation. It is an unusual infection that affects soft tissue from the superficial fascia or subcutaneous tissue that may extend into the muscle or from it. The condition is difficult to diagnose due to the late presentation of symptoms, in general it has a torpid evolution and high mortality. The most important aspect to highlight in this review is that besides aggressive surgical and antibiotic treatment, patients prognosis will improve with early clinical suspicion. We reviewed a clinical case of a 22 years old patient with history of intramuscular injection, who consulted for severe gluteus and back pain with no cutaneous or systemic symptoms. He presented with a very poor outcome in a short period of time and developed late necrotizing fasciitis sings in the right lower extremity. Patient dies despite an aggressive surgical and antibiotic treatment.
