ABSTRACT
Monochroionic biamniotic twins can develop: twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), selective intrauterine growth restriction (sIUGR) or TRAP sequence. Identification of chorionicity can be performed by ultrasound since early stages of pregnancy. Monochorionicity is defined when a T sign is documented and dichorionicity when the lambda sign is present. Type and severity of complications are related to differences in fetal weight, amniotic fluid and bladder size between the twins and Doppler characteristics. Intrauterine treatment of these complications include photo coagulation of the placental vascular anastomoses, amniodrainage and selective umbilical cord occlusion. In utero treatment increases the overall survival and reduces the risk of postnatal complications.
