ABSTRACT
We present the case of a newborn with diagnosis of congenital toxoplasmosis. There were no maternal history. The clinical manifestations were hydrocephalus, disseminated skin disease, microphthalmia, hepatomegaly and chorioretinitis. The image studies showed hydrocephalus and intracranial calcifications. There were eosinophilia and elevation of lactate dehydrogenase and alkaline phosphatase. The spinal fluid was abnormal. We indicate treatment for a year with sulfamethoxazole/ trimethoprim, pirymethamine and folinic acid which was well tolerated. This article shows the severity of the congenital toxoplasmosis and the necessity to establish early diagnoses in the mother and the newborns.
