ABSTRACT
Asthma is a chronic infl ammatory disorder of lower airways, where infl ammation consists of an essential process in the beginning with its progression. Anti-infl ammatory processes are associated with an important functional and symptomatic relief. Nevertheless, direct measurement of infl ammation markersrepresents an objective parameter to be evaluated on asthmatic patients. Such an objective evaluation can be performed through a systematic review of infl ammatory markers in sputum inducted in asthmatic patients. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the clinical response to treatment in children and adult people. Conclusions: Inducted sputum is a safe technique in children. The procedure can be carried out by trained technicians. Procedure security is similar for children and adults. Pre-medication by means of bronchodilators improves the proof success and tolerability. Eosinophilia in inducted sputum and exhaled nitrous oxide are the more precise predictors of asthma exacerbation in children and adolescents
