ABSTRACT
Amyloidosis is a term that involves a group of diseases characterized by deposition of extracellular protein in the body including many organs, among these the larynx. It is a disease with an unknown etiology, mostly with systemic symptoms, but rarely in a single organ. The clinical nature of laryngeal amyloidosis has not been well established, and the natural history of the disease is a controversial matter; the epidemiology is poorly known in our country because each physician reports his experience when it involves an area of his concern. The aim of this study is to present three cases with laryngeal and laryngotracheal amyloidosis and a literature review, highlighting some recently developed concepts and techniques about diagnosis and management of this problem, most of all the importance of suspecting the diagnosis before the pathology report.
