ABSTRACT
The acute disseminated encepha-lomyelitis (ADEM) is an autoinmune demyelinating disease of the white matter of the central nervous system, it usually has a monophasic course and is usually preceded by a viral or bacterial infection, it may also be presented after vaccination, being more frequent in children than adults. Its treatment consists in the use of high dose steroids, plasmapheresis or IV immunoglobulin. This disease is self-limited and has, in general, a favorable outcome.
