RESUMEN
La encefalomielitis aguda diseminada (EAD) es una enfermedad autoinmune desmielinizante de la sustancia blanca del sistema nervioso central, la cual suele tener una presentación monofásica y ser precedida por una infección viral o bacteriana, o puede presentarse luego de una vacunación, siendo más frecuente en niños que adultos. Su tratamiento consiste en la aplicación de esteroides en altas dosis, plasmaferesis o inmunoglobulina IV. Esta enfermedad es autolimitada y presenta, en general, un pronóstico favorable.
