ABSTRACT
Background: Dermatomyositis (DM) is an autoimmune inflammatory myopathy with characteristic manifestations in the skin, with 2:1 female predominance. 14% of patients are aged between 15-45 years old, which is the reproductive age women, which explains their low concomitant with pregnancy, so little is known about this relationship.
Objective: We report experience in cases of DM occurred during pregnancy.
Material and methods: We reviewed medical records of patients with DM diagnosis, which occurred between the years 1999 to 2006.
Results: We report 11 women, 10 were previously diagnosed before pregnancy, who presented no clinical activity during pregnancy, of these, and three patients were on treatment, one case with oligohydramnios, and another with intrauterine death. There was a patient presenting during pregnancy, that required treatment with methylprednisolone, prednisone and azathioprine, ongoing intrauterine growth restriction, which was conducted by caesarean section at 35 weeks of gestation, the postpartum exacerbation.
Conclusion: Patients with DM should be more special obstetric care. In cases who present during pregnancy, there is greater risk to the fetus, it must have a monitoring and fetal development, and if necessary, forward the birth to prevent stillbirth.
