ABSTRACT
Objective. To evaluate the security and effectiveness of cephtibuteno for the treatment of children with bacterial diarrhea in comparison with trimethoprim and
sulfamethoxazole.
Material and methods. 60 patients were studied with diagnosis of bacterial diarrhea, the children were six months to six-year-olds. They were divided in two groups; the group I received TMT/SMX at doses PO, the group II received cephtibuteno dose 9 mg/kg/day POR every 24 hours during five days. Stool culture, fecal cytology, fecal blood test, hematic cytology, blood chemistry and hepatic panel and urine tests were realized in all the patients.
Results. We found not statistical differences when
comparing age, sex, number of evacuations and diarrhea days. The most frequent clinical manifestation were, bad general state, blood and mocus in stool, vomiting and fever in both groups.
All the patients recover health with the treatment. The principal bacteria isolated were
Escherichia coli. No ono adverse alteration in laboratory test was observed.
Conclusion. The cephtibuteno at dese once a day was as effective and secure as TMT/SMX for treat bacterial
diarrhea in children.
