Communication and perspective of audiencies. A qualitative research for diabetes.

ABSTRACT
Objective: To identify the level of knowledge about the causes of diabetes mellitus, it’s symptoms and consequences for men and women between 40 and 50 years of ages, it also aims to identify life style habits that may cause diabetes mellitus. The knowledge gained from this study will provide valuable information to health care providers for the prevention and treatment of diabetes mellitus.
Design and methods: The study was conducted in 3 different urban areas in Mexico. Six groups of women, six groups of men, three of doctors and three of paramedics were studied.
Results: 1) The population unknown the causes and effects of the DM and the possibilities of chronic degenerative risks, they relations the glucose level and the powerful emotion with their origin. In the general health care the main topic is a poor preventive culture between the population, a fatalistic assumption of diseases and a medical visits resistance. The women go on with the medic more often than the men the most important causes there are pregnancy, delivery, perinatal and pediatric care. The diet concept has a restrictive connotation, it guess against traditional cuisine and those engaged in it are insolated from the familiar environment. Meat consumption is highly appreciated in contrast with vegetables and better food. 2) Talking about the physician knowledge health, the medics has more information than the paramedics, the notion of prediabetic state there are more common. There are not incorporated the autoelimination questionnaire in the diagnostic and some cases that has been closer of some powerful emotion when the medics has to explain the cause. Physicians observe low treatment adherence, the patient prefer an external control (drugs), over internal control (diet and exercises), in the other sense the paramedic perceive him self more accessible with the diabetic patient. Medic do not looks him self in the role of educator. The time dedicated to attendant a patient get to the diabetic a key factor. The actual practice in this disease reaffirms the prevention and control of it. The normal feed habits between the medical personal there are similar with general population.
Conclusion: The information obtained permits to be better the communication with the audience.
