ABSTRACT
Histoplasmosis is caused by the fungus
Histoplasma capsulatum, this microorganism has been isolated from soil enriched with bird or bat guano, generally from caves. This mycosis is occupational diseases, spelunkers, guano workers and adventure tourists are in risk to acquire the infection. Histoplasmosis could be classified in pulmonary, residual and disseminated disease; spores are inhaled causing strange pneumonia. Generally the infection is asymptomatic, however immunosupred patients (AIDS, chronic diseases) reactivation could be origin disseminated diseases. In recent years, outbreaks of histoplasmosis has been described in travelers to visit caves from Latin-American countries, Mexico is a country with histoplasmosis, is necessary research more about this systemic mycoses in our country.
