ABSTRACT
Introduction: Persistent hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia is caused by inappropiate insulin secretion. Patients that do not respond to medical treatment require pancreatectomy. 95% pancreatectomy is the procedure of choice.Material and Methods: We included five patients who underwent laparoscopic pancreatectomy, three trocars were placed, the pancreas was resected from the tail to the origin of the porta vein, preserving the splenic vessels.
Results: In four patients we performed 95% pancreatectomy and 80% in one, which required reoperation because hyperinsulinism persisted. So far the patients are normoglycemic without medical treatment.
Conclusions: Laparoscopic pancreactectomy has shown similar results to those with open surgery, whith the known advantages of minimally invasive surgery.
