Malignant ovarian tumors and rare in Pediatrics Experience in the State Children’s Hospital Sonora

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Ovarian tumors are uncommon in children. The comprehensive treatment should not include radical operations that interfere with reproductive function of patients.
Objective: Study of cases with a diagnosis of ovarian tumor giving prominence to the carriers of malignancy and rare benign tumor.
Material and Methods: We did a retrospective study of patients with a diagnosis of ovarian tumors in January 1978 to December 1997 to collect a total of 27 cases.
Results: The mean age was 14 years and the clinical picture was characterized by pain, abdominal tumor, digestive and urinary symptoms. On physical examination found a palpable tumor in the lower abdomen with positive DRE. Studies of laboratory and confirmed the diagnosis of TO. Histopathological study revealed 5 TO Germ cell origin, and a sex cord stromal, hematopoietic lineage 2 and vascular causes were rare. All of them underwent salpingo oophorectomy with contralateral biopsy of suspicious areas. All patients received chemotherapy and only one was given radiotherapy. There was only one death.
Discussion: We discuss some general features of malignant tumors and their treatment also are some important facts about the abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound and the Index Pulse and resistance that are useful in the diagnosis of malignant TO also be suggests a diagnostic and therapeutic path.
