ABSTRACT
Enterotoxigenic
Escherichia coli (ETEC) generate the travel diarrhea or watery diarrhea both children and adults, its transmission is related by uncooked and contaminated food. This bacterium has caused epidemiologist outbreak in Mexico until 70% of the cases. The pathogenicity mechanism of ETEC involves the expression of colonization factors, production of adhesina and enterotoxins like LT or ST and longus pili. In the Pathogenesis Laboratory of Puebla University there are collections of 156 strains of
E. coli isolated from diverse environmental and clinical samples. In this investigation we typified the enterotoxigenic
E. coli from the collection based upon the identification of
LT and/or
ST genes and longus protein, using for that the PCR and Western blot techniques respectively. Our results showed that ETEC was founded in 75% of air and water strains, in 73.52% from children strains, in 61.11% from food strains and in 42.85% from adult clinical samples. Of the total collection strains only the 51.58% expressed two virulence factors (
ST gene and longus protein) and the 10.95% expressed
ITgene and/or longus protein. We classified like ETEC to 63.0% of the total of the collection strains. This investigation suggests hardest that ETEC were the major biocontaminat perhaps for the lacks hygiene of the individuals, foods and ecosystems pollution in general.
