ABSTRACT
Objective. To evaluate correlation between clinical evolution and cerebrospinal fluid findings with procoagulant activity in children with bacterial meningitis.
Materials and methods. We studied 13 patients with bacterial meningitis, from 1 month to 10 years old. Samples of cerebrospinal fluid were took before and after treatment. In all samples we determined procoagulant activity.
Results. We compared clinical signs and cerebrospinal fluid characteristics with procoagulant activity before and after treatment and we found no correlation with changes in clinical signs and cerebrospinal fluid characteristics.
Conclusions. In children with bacterial meningitis, procoagulant activity is useful as a diagnosis test but not as a clinical evolution marker.
