Clinical problems. The intrincate diagnosis of gastritis in children

ABSTRACT
Objective. To identify antecedents and clinical features in children with primary gastritis and to analyze our experience.
Material and methods. We reviewed 88 clinical records ofchildren with acid-peptic illness, and selected 42 of them with clinical symptoms of primary gastritis, that moreover haven positive laboratory test, endoscopy and biopsy.
Results. 42 patients haven primary gastritis diagnoses, in 28 (66%) the socioeconomic level was lower; the signs andsymptoms more frequently observed were: vomit in 79%, epigastric pain in 64%; recurrent abdominal pain in 29%. In 18 children was made HP test, result positive in 12. All received treatment for primary gastritis, using H
2 blockers, proton inhibitor pumps: the antibiotic more frequently utilized: amoxicillin, claritromycin, metronidazole. The evolution was good.
Conclusions. The
Helycobacter pylori gastritis is not frequently considerate in pediatric patients with digestive symptoms, but the patients treated in this study for gastritis had good response.
