Diagnosis and opportune treatments for Helicobacter pylori infection: a solution for a health problem

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Helicobacter pylori (Hp) is associated with gastritis, peptic ulcer (95% in duodenal ulcer and 75% with gastric ulcers) and gastric cancer (65%). Hp is one of the most studied microorganisms. Actually more than three million of people has been infected. In our region, specific data in relation with the utility, specificity and sensibility of diagnostic test are unknown.
Material and methods: A clinical, prospective, observational and descriptive study was performed in 50 patients (30 females and 20 males) with peptic ulcer and non-ulcer gastritis. In all patients an endoscopy of the upper digestive tract, gastric biopsies (seven), CLO-test, C14 breath test, microbiology, histology, culture, antimicrobial susceptibility by Epsilometer ε-test, and measure of antibodies versus
Helicobacter pylori was made.
Results: The CLO-test was positive in all patients, and Breath-test in 98%. We found 34% of
Helicobacter pylori resistance to metronidazole. The Hp-antibodies levels were of 75 U/mL in average and positive in 95% of the cases.
Conclusions: By first time in our region, a study multidisciplinary was conducted with the purpose to compare the sensitive of several diagnostic tests. The e-test is outstanding because we found
Helicobacter pylori resistance to metronidazole. The antibodies measure win similar in efficacy (96% and 94%). We concluded that Hp a public health problem, and its opportune diagnosis and treatment.
