ABSTRACT
Objective: To determine how the programs of primary prevention (PP) against Child Abuse (ChA) have been evaluated by means of a documentary review.
Material and Methods: The evaluation of programs of PP against ChA in six databases (1970-2007) was reviewed with these key words: “child abuse”, “child maltreatment”, “primary prevention”, “violence”, “prevention”. Criteria of incorporation: goal - analysis, review articles and descriptive articles.
Results: Of 154 articles, five fulfilled the criteria of selection: two goal - analysis and three review articles. They originated in the area of mental health (2 articles), social work (2 articles) and the medical area (1 article). Three articles did a qualitative evaluation and two, quantitative- qualitative evaluation. Based on the qualitative evaluation of a theoretical model a classification was proposed on this basis, level of intervention, approach of the program, and/or argumentative and scene of application. The quantitative evaluation was not conclusive on the efficiency of the programs. Except that of “domiciliary visits to families of risk” p ‹ 0.005.
Conclusions: There are programs of primary prevention for the infantile mistreatment worldwide. The limited publication of the programs, the heterogeneity of the models of intervention, the methodological deficiencies (faults) in its development are factors that difficult their impact and trascendence.
