ABSTRACT
Villoglandular carcinoma of the cervix is a rare but well differentiated form of cervical adenocarcinoma. This neoplasm was described for the first time by Young and Scully in 1989, whereas in 1994 was listed as a histopathologic entity in the World Health Organization’s (WHO) histological typing of cervical cancer. The recognition of this tumor is very important because it has a better prognosis than the more common types of cervical adenocarcinomas. Surgical approach can be conservative because of its favorable prognosis. The age of presentation is younger than the other types of cervical carcinomas. This entity is microscopically characterized by an exophytic proliferation with papillary architecture and null to middle nuclear atypia. We present a case of villoglandular adenocarcinoma of the cervix in a 38 years old women diagnosed in biopsy and who underwent hysterectomy.
