ABSTRACT
Objetive: To determine the effect of periodontal therapy on glycemic control in diabetes type two adult patients.Introduction: Periodontal diasease is a consequence of the genetic interaction, enviroment, host and microbial factors. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder syndrome with inappropriate hyperglycemia caused by and ansolute deficiency of insulin secretion, or, a reduction on the efficacy of this hormone. An Association between Periodontal Disease and DM is well known. Metabolic treatment for diabetes patients may improve by controlling the infection and periodontal swollenness.
Methods: None years old and elder patients from the Periodontics Departament of the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas with moderate to severe periodontal disease weretreated with the phase 1 if periodontal procedure. Measurements on basal state of biophysiological analysos were made (basal glucose, postprandial glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin) and cliniacl periodontal indexes were taken before the 3 weeks and 12 weeks treatments.
Results: All patients showed a significant reduction in both periodontal endexes and glycemic indexes. Discussion: A decreasion with periodontal treatment DM type 2 patients´glycemia was noticed with HbA1c analysis´results as the most significant measurement of the effect. Postprandial glucose test was confirmed on this study as a faithfull marker to evaluate periodonta therapy effect on DM type 2 patients.
