ABSTRACT
The objective is to determine the frequency of neuropathy and which factors are most associated with increased frequency in patients with RA. The neurological manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are among the most common and involve the central and peripheral nervous systems. The largest functional disability, is associated with the involvement of the joints deforming; patients have symptoms of peripheral neuropathy that can be masked by the symptoms articulate. We studied 73 patients AR classified by the American College of Rheumatology, 6 men and 67 women, with or without symptoms of peripheral nerve, was performed complete clinical examination and study of nerve conduction velocity. Neuropathy was presented in 34.2% of patients. The 27.4% of patients with neuropathy had more than 10 years with the disease, and 6.8% less than 10 years. Presented neuropathy patients in functional class 1 in 11.8%, 28.2% of the functional class 2; in 42.1% of 3; and 100% of Class 4. The peripheral neuropathy in RA is more often deteriorates as the functional class and older than 10 years’ duration of illness.
