ABSTRACT

The incidence of apendicular agenesis has been reported in 1 of every 100,000 laparotomies for acute appendicitis. Diagnosis is usually incidental and intraoperative during the surgical exploration of a patient with acute abdominal pain. This article describes the clinical presentation, diagnosis and treatment of a patient with appendicular agenesis and reviews the embryological, epidemiological and therapeutic aspects that have been described in medical literature.
