Visceral leishmaniasis in a child with suspected myeloproliferative syndrome

ABSTRACT
A four-year-old, from Chilapa Guerrero with one year and six months evolution of increased volume of the abdomen, jaundice, superficial collateral veins, haematochezia; 12 cm hepatomegaly and 22 cm splenomegaly and a papulosquamous lesion on the knee. In addition, showed pancytopenia and in a bone marrow sample, amastigotes were found.
ELISA test was positive for leishmaniasis. She was treated with amphotericin B and meglumine antimoniate, with a satisfactory clinical evolution. It is important to make an early diagnosis of the disease, to avoid the chronicity or the death of the patient.
