ABSTRACT
We describe three outbreaks of Parvovirus B19 in hospital workers of the INP during 2003 and 2004, to gain insight into the clinical and epidemiological profile of each one. Method: All health workers that within any of the outbreak periods suffered arthralgia and/or exanthema with positive serology for Parvovirus B 19 were described as cases.
Results: A total of 22 cases, residents 81%; in the second and third outbreak the female gender predominated ( 82% and 80%). Exanthema and arthralgia were present in 100% of cases in the first and third outbreak; in the second outbreak percentages were 81% and 90% respectively.
Conclusion: Prolonged proximity during work between medical residents favors the transmission of infections.
