ABSTRACT
Hospital discharge data set (HDDS) should include a document reflecting the type and complexity of activities carried out in any hospital ward. During activities of the Mortality Committee of the Hospital de Pediatría, Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI, IMSS, in Mexico City, we observed several deficiencies in the filling out of the HDDS, which constitutes the focus of this publication. The HDDS of 26 patients from a total of 280 children who died during the first 10 months of 2001 were analyzed. We found that deficient filling out existed in nearly all items, varying from 4 to 81 %. These deficiencies might generate mistakes in statistics, cost calculation, and assessment of complexity of medical services provided by a hospital. Thus, strategies are required to educate clinicians in correct filling of the HDDS, especially with regard to the relevance of this data.REFERENCES
